The Power of a Lie

A Devotional by Ceola J.

2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV)
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

This week, I would like to share something about my anxiety and the power of a lie. Have you believed a lie the enemy has been privately whispering to you? Has he been whispering this lie for a period of time? Did he start with this lie years ago and keep attacking you with it? If you can relate, it’s time to put it to rest once and for all.

For years, this has probably been one of the most consistent attacks on me—the enemy attacking me with a lie, or lies. I have shared in previous devotionals, blogs, and posts the lies that I’m not good enough, I’m not worthy, I’m not capable, or that I cannot handle the success. He has even tried to hype up things that are not the Father’s will, trying to make me worry about them or fear them.

Listen, may I offer you this one passage that is true, undeniable, and absolute? Father God’s word says in 2 Timothy 1:7: “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” And if this is true—and it is—then why do we worry? I ask myself that all the time… “Why are you worrying?”

From time to time, I watch videos on YouTube, and lately, many of them are AI-generated, and one phrase I hear AI use over and over again is, “Sit with that.” And every time I hear it, I think, there it is again—“sit with that.” LOL. But this time, I want us to actually do it. Sit with this for a moment: If Father God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind, then why do we worry?

As we move through this week, let’s try something different. Let’s try to focus on the promises of Father God that are yes and amen. Let’s settle on trusting and believing Father God, resting in His Word, and finding peace in His faithfulness. If Father God promised, He will do it—and that should settle it, period! Nothing else to see or debate here.

If you are in a place where you cannot pinpoint a promise Father God gave you about something specific to rest in and find peace in, ask Him to anchor you in a word. Ask Him to give you something to hold onto. Remember what He said: He who promised is faithful. Father God is not a man that He should lie. If He spoke it, shall He not perform it? Do you perceive the promises of Father God in your life?

If not, I beseech you to search the Word for His promises, and then stand on that Word without wavering and believe what the Father says… Because His Word will not return unto Him void.

This Week’s Prayer

Father God, thank You for Your Word, Your promises, and Your faithfulness. Help me to recognize and reject every lie that contradicts what You have spoken concerning me. When fear, worry, and anxiety attempt to consume my thoughts, remind me that You have not given me the spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.

Father, anchor me in Your Word. Help me to trust You even when I cannot see or understand what You are doing. Give me the courage to stand without wavering, knowing that He who promised is faithful.

Today, I choose to believe You over every lie, fear, circumstance, and feeling. You said it. We believe it. And that settles it.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

You Said It. We Believe It. And That Settles It.
