As I sat thinking about what to write for this month’s blog, the title I’m Every Woman came to mind. When I think about all that Father God has given me to do, it can feel a wee bit overwhelming at times. Honestly, I have always been a workaholic—pray for me. There is always something that needs to be written, created, finished, planned, corrected, recorded, posted, developed, or followed up on. And while I am grateful for everything Father God has entrusted me with, carrying it all is not always easy. What helps me is remembering that I do not have to understand the size of what He is doing or know how every piece will come together. I simply have to obey what He tells me to do. I call this “staying in a child’s place.” A child does not have to know every detail. A child simply trusts the one leading them. That is where I try to remain—with my hand in Father God’s hand, taking one step at a time.
Many of us are carrying several God-given roles. We are wives, sisters, friends, mothers, daughters, ministers, business owners, caregivers, creators, and so much more. But sometimes, in our desire to complete the work Father God has placed before us, we can forget that the people He has placed in our lives are also part of the assignment.
There will be days when the work requires more of our attention. There will also be times when Father God tells us to put the work down, look across the room, make the phone call, sit with the family, or simply rest. That, my dearly beloved, is balance. Balance does not always mean giving equal time to everything. It means allowing Father God to show us what requires our attention in that moment.
My husband and I are often up working late into the night. Still, we make it a point to have dinner together, watch a movie, talk, and laugh before returning to our separate workspaces. That time matters because Father God is not asking us to carry the work of the Kingdom while forgetting some of the Kingdom’s greatest blessings: the people we love.
Learning to ask, “Father God, what requires my attention today?” is essential. We must also learn to give ourselves grace. A missed call, a belated birthday card, or an unfinished task does not mean we have failed. It means we are human. Being entrusted with much does not mean we are expected to carry it without rest, wisdom, help, or healthy boundaries. Even Jesus withdrew from the crowds to rest and spend time with the Father.
Yes, I may feel like every woman—wife, friend, sister, aunt, cousin, niece, writer, entrepreneur, minister, creator, and visionary—but I am still only one woman. And the same is also true for you, too. You do not have to be everything to everyone all of the time. Stay in the child’s place. Keep your hand in Father God’s hand, and trust Him to order what He has placed in yours.
Father God, thank You for every role, responsibility, relationship, and assignment You have placed in my hands. Help me not to become overwhelmed by trying to carry everything at once or by attempting to be everything to everyone. Teach me to stay in a child’s place, trusting You to lead me one step at a time. I ask You to show me what requires my attention day by day, what can wait, what I need to release, and where I need to rest. I pray for wisdom to be responsible and trustworthy with the work You have entrusted to me without neglecting the people You have placed in my life. May You help me recognize that my family, friendships, health, and time with You are also among the blessings and responsibilities You have given me. When I fall short, remind me to give myself grace. Help me to receive help, establish healthy boundaries, and remember that I was never meant to carry everything in my own strength. Father God, order my steps, protect my heart, renew my mind, and restore my body. Teach me to work when You say work, rest when You say rest, and trust You with everything that remains unfinished. I may carry many roles, but I am still only one woman, Your daughter.
